Every Tuesday you will pick one of your classes to work on in class. You will bring that textbook to class. We will also have other assignments on those days. Failure to bring an additional textbook will result in a 0 for the day.

Every Thursday you will bring an article you have found online in; read it before class and take notes on it. You should be able to discuss the article with a peer and write on it without looking at it again. Use Table 7 in part 1 to write notes.

There will be quizzes. Most of your reading outside class will involve the novel and the memoir and the articles you find online (Huffington Post, Science 2.0, Yahoo News). Do not fall behind. Take notes. Be prepared for quizzes.

Homework assignment: Read The Reader's Corner Part 1. Take notes. Bring the book and the notes on 1 Sep.

Week 2
30-Aug NO CLASS (I have a seminar to attend)

1-Sep Bring all your course syllabi to class with you along with a day planner or calendar print out.

Week 3
6-Sep Make sure you own One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest by this date and begin reading it. You will be required to have taken all the notes and completed your reading of the text by 4 Oct. Please bring your day planner; we will map out the reading together so that you will be prepared for in class quizzes.
Cover Part 1 in class, possible quiz.

We had a credit/no credit quiz. We did page 191, selection 27, 1-10 for a grade. We decided on the reading schedule for One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest which will be added to the schedule below. The handouts to be filled out were given; you should fill out each part as you read. You must bring this to class each Tuesday filled out for a credit/no credit grade. Entire notebook (put handouts in a notebook) will be turned in for a major grade on October 4, when you will be tested on the book. Be prepared for quizzes on the novel each Tuesday and to participate in a discussion.

Reading 0303:Developmental Reading III

CatalogDescription: Fundamental reading skills to developcomprehension, vocabulary, and rate. Study skills and standardized testingskills are included. Will not count towards a degree. Three lecture hours perweek. Credit: 3 semester hours.
Prerequisite:Grade of ‘C’ or better in Reading 0302 or test placement

Course Outcomes:
Apply active reading strategies to readings in multiple disciplines and from multiple types of college level texts.
Improve and document comprehension and interpretation.
Analyze the relationships among ideas between texts.
Practice critical thinking skills to evaluate and interpret written material.
